Ugo Ezema, MD
A physician writing at the intersection of medicine, culture, and the human experience.
I'm Ugo Ezema. I trained at Tulane, practiced at Ochsner and Terrebonne General, and I'm three times board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonology, and critical care. I run codes, I run a podcast, and I write a newsletter for anyone who has ever wanted a doctor to just answer the question honestly.
The Last Zebra is where I sit down with physicians who don't fit the template — the ones who kept the parts of themselves that medical training tries to sand off. Doc Populi is where I write about all of it in longer form.
The motto in the logo is Latin — Dum Spiro, Spero. While I breathe, I hope. It's the most honest thing I know how to say about medicine.
